In their search for water, tree roots can enter an earthenware pipe via a small crack until the mass of roots causes the pipe to break. Tree roots are one of the most common causes of a blocked drain.
The Electric Eel is used to unblock both sanitary drains and storm water lines. The long metal rods are inserted into the drain via an inspection opening and the sharp tip proceeds to cut through the blockage as the coils are rotated. When the rods are retracted, evidence of the cause of the blockage is usually caught in the coil e.g. tree roots, dirt, toilet tissue or feminine hygiene products.
